As a photographer and audio-visual storyteller I am interested in emotional contemporary debates, each party battling for a supreme narrative. What can we believe? How can we find the common ground we need to co-exist? In a world of confusing arguments and counterarguments, deceiving misinformation, and intentional disinformation campaigns, I am searching for a universal moral and ethical compass as guidance. With a background in journalism my focus is on social and political issues of global concern: the interaction with our environment, the fabric of societies, the way we decide to connect, partition, organize the world we live in.
Today’s thoughts are setting the course for tomorrow’s reality. How to imagine the inconceivable? How to break boundaries of imagination? My work tries to simplify complexities and focus on the big picture, introducing fiction and vision for a better imagination of an inconceivable future. Therefore, my work is part documentary, part fiction, part vision; not journalism not art; neither plain photography stills nor moving pictures; both series and standalone images at once. Despite working with elements of fiction and vision all research is carried out with journalistic care.
My practice is project driven. A single image – as beautiful and strong it might be – is not my interest unless it fits into a sequence, framed by a narrative giving each photograph context. No narrative has value without context. Breaking through the boundaries of rationale, allowing to detach from a strictly documentary point of view, in my works I experiment with forms of emotional storytelling. The projects are choregraphed, with exposition, climax, and resolution. Like stories.
