Arved Gintenreiter
Biography
Arved Gintenreiter is a journalist with a focus on emotional storytelling. Confronted with the challenge of how to convey fact-based information to an increasingly partisan post-truth audience, he transforms complex contemporary environmental, social, and political subjects into compelling audio-visual information experiences.
Arved was born 1975 in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany. The first decade of his childhood he spent in Asia, mainly in Pakistan and Turkey, where he experienced defining years between diverse cultures and norms. Taking such tension as a source of inspiration, he still lives and works nomadically.
After obtaining a master’s degree in business economics at the University of Frankfurt, 2004 he moved to Damascus, Syria, for several months to learn Arabic. During his travels in the Middle East with its rich history and complicated politics he decided to top up his education and become a journalist.
Upon return to Frankfurt, he started writing at a local newspaper and soon served an apprenticeship as a news journalist at Germany’s news agency dpa (Deutsche Presse-Agentur) in Hamburg and Berlin among other places. He worked on national and international assignments as a reporter and editor both in the departments of economics and foreign affairs.
Plagued by a feeling of routine, 2008 he decided to quit his job at dpa and pursue his passion for photography by contributing to pa picture-alliance as a freelancer. After moving to Venice, Italy, he started a business offering customized photography workshops, while also working on his Venice Monochrome photo series. 2017 he moved to the Mediterranean island of Malta, where he is presently based.
Intrigued by a rapidly changing media landscape, recently his attention has returned to his journalistic roots. Arved’s latest work explores concepts of how to bring reliably sourced and edited information to skeptical recipients, experimenting with information experiences comprising narration, photography, and soundscapes to extend the rational perception of storytelling by building on the creative imagination of the audience.
